The FCC, The Internet, and Regulation

Posted by:

Once again the federal government is trying to find or create some injured party to justify the creation of a new regulatory diktat under the FCC to lay hands on the operation of the Internet. Actually in this case it is probably even worse. The Obama administration may not even care if they find an injured party to justify their desire to regulate something that they do not currently regulate. The Internet since its creation has been largely self regulating. ...

Shaunapalooza Music Festival

This past weekend we produced a live switched Internet broadcast of the Shaunapalooza Music Festival from Swabbies on the River in Sacramento California. This festival has been put on by its promoters for the past three years. We have been there every year to broadcast this event. This year we live switched four cameras and included graphics and lower thirds in the live stream. More than a dozen bands played for this two day festival. The weather was great. For ...

The NAB Show in Las Vegas (2014)

Posted by:

If you are in the broadcast business you probably know someone who is going to NAB in Las Vegas this week. It is the second largest convention in Las Vegas. All three halls are filled with everything from radio to television to pre and post production systems and services. There are more than 1000 exhibits.  If that isn’t enough, between the halls at the convention center there will be satellite trucks and production trucks for the conventioneers to visit. We ...

Captioning live meetings seems to be the most sought after skill that our customers have asked for this past month. Some meetings are broadcast in English and some are broadcast in Spanish with English captions. We use some unique tools and tricks to allow our customers to specify font style size and color as well as the background behind the captions. It all works very smoothly with our crews at the controls, but the technical underpinnings of getting it done ...

Video SSC News – November 2013

We did a little math this month and discovered that we have produced and live streamed more government meetings for the State of California than any other contractor. Over the past two years alone that encompasses more than 300 days of broadcasts and this year isn’t over yet. We also provide indexed archives of all of these meetings to allow our customers quick access to video segments by agenda line item. That’s quite an achievement and a very large video ...

Video SSC News – September 2013

“The days are just filled” is a comment that the creator of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbs used to offer frequently during the warm summer months. We are feeling that way ourselves. During August we were very busy. In addition to buying and outfitting another crew van for our growing on-location film and broadcast work load, we started or completed six video projects spanning the range from PSA development to Voice over work and training videos. We are also ...

Summer? Vacation? Not for us. We’ve been busy. We facilitated more than a dozen projects, mostly live Internet video broadcasts. Everything from one camera to four camera live switched broadcasts for room filling audiences requiring large public address capabilities. But we really enjoy doing this kind of work. We make it look easy. To top the month of June off we were notified that we were competitively selected to provide video, audio, streaming and film production services on a statewide ...

In May we put the finishing touches on a PSA that we volunteered to produce for an association of military veterans. The five minute PSA is intended to help raise funds for a new War Memorial for the northern California region. These folks are putting their hearts into it and we are proud to have been asked to support their efforts. We have also been engaged in meetings with the City and County of San Francisco to help define a ...
